Ashley Olson Onyango
Ashley Onyango is the Head of Financial Inclusion and AgriTech with GSMA’s Mobile for Development team, driving innovation in digital technology to reduce inequalities in our world. Ashley oversees the work of the Mobile Money programme, supporting the GSMA members and industry stakeholders to increase the utility and sustainability of mobile money services and increase financial inclusion, and the AgriTech programme, supporting the mobile industry, agricultural sector stakeholders, innovators and investors in AgriTech space to launch, improve and scale impactful and commercially viable digital solutions for smallholder farmers in the developing world. Ashley has over ten years’ experience championing financial inclusion and the development of agrifood systems across sub-Saharan Africa. During this time, Ashley designed and managed funds, investing in agribusinesses and fintechs across the continent, with Root Capital and Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF), to catalyze innovation and growth for wide impact. Ashley has played key roles in driving and supporting gender lens investing in her work. She also worked with Mastercard Foundation and Financial Sector Deepening Africa (FSDA), managing financial inclusion programmes, partnering and working with a wide array of implementing partners and key stakeholders in the industry.
